HIV and AIDS

HIV and AIDS are prevalent in Almaty, Kazakhstan. And yet people aren’t taught about the disease, about its cause, prevention or treatment. When HIV and AIDS are spoken about in the communities, it is accredited to intravenous drug use only and therefore carries with it the shame and isolation and that the lifestyle is viewed with.

Operation Mercy is making students aware of the disease through its life skills programme that is run in local schools, colleges and universities throughout the city. Students are taught about HIV and AIDS cause, prevention and treatment as well as how to have a healthy lifestyle and how it is possible to live with hope despite having the disease.

Operation Mercy in Kazakhstan is also partnering with other organizations in educating community leaders and others about the effects of HIV and AIDS.
